Monday, March 2nd

Firstly, I would like to extend a warm welcome to our four new club members. The Miner Road Runners is twelve strong now. We look forward to training together as we prep for the Ice Breaker race in April.

Monday will mark the start of our two a week training schedule. We will be running during the LEAP recess. Our time is limited to 20 minutes, but we will be certain to make the most of it. We will be going on a group runs (notice the 's' on run - that's right, there will be a couple of running groups starting next week) on the Miner Trail. Good stuff.

Challenge for the weekend: Run/walk (move) continuously for 20 minutes. Move at a pace that allows you to enjoy your surroundings.

Wednesday, Feb. 4th

Good work out today.

We started the day with a game of rainbow tag to warm-up, then moved to the triangle drill, on the large scale. Most everyone did ran strong, running the sprints hard, jogging easy and walking smoothly. This is a great drill to work on speed, pacing and catching your breath. Good stuff. Stay tuned for more information!

Wednesday, Jan. 28th Club

Wednesday, we started club with our usually rule recitation, then moved to the outdoors to begin our work out. We warmed up with line tag and rainbow tag, then did a 20 minute pace run around the track.

The point of the 20 minute work out was to feel out a comfortable pace that you could maintain for 20 minutes. Simple? Not so much. After a few laps, the kids settled into a comfortable conversational pace. At the end of the 20 minutes, most of the kids had completed 2 miles. We will continue doing this 20 minute pace work out to improve our abilities to feel out these longer distances.

Everyone did well this week. Next week, weather permitting, we will begin our Monday work out during lunch recess. I will be taking the kids to the track to run for 20-25 minutes, to supplement our other club work out on Wednesday. Stay tuned!
